Bruce Chen (Chen Sudan) received his B.A in English Language and Literature in 1988 and M.A in Higher Education Management in 2006 from Shantou University. In 1994, he participated in the Higher Teacher Training Program jointly run by the British Council and the English Department of Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Language which is now called Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) and finished his postgraduate courses in English teaching practice and applied linguistics. During 2002-2004, he accomplished his Master Degree courses in Civil and Commercial Law from China University of Politics and Law. In 2009, he visited UC Berkeley in the United States with the visiting Group led by STU Party Committee Secretary.

 

He is now an Associate Professor of English at the ELC. He has been teaching English at STU since 1988. He teaches English courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He loves movies, music and sports, especially he likes playing basketball and Taiji in his spare time. The teaching philosophy he believes is that teaching is learning, teaching a person is far more important than teaching a language.

 

His research interest involves in English teaching and learning, second language acquisition, teaching methodology, sociolinguistics, higher pedagogical management, and cross-cultural research. In recent years, he has published some research papers in different academic journals, including the Journal of International Languages Teaching and Studies, Foreign Languages and Their Teaching, Journal of Shantou University, Journal of Xi'an Foreign Languages University, Higher Education of Sciences, the Journal of Contemporary Education and Education Teaching Forum.
